What is GERDX?

It is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that involves tightening of the junction between your food pipe (esophagus) and stomach in patients diagnosed with chronic gastroesophageal reflux.

What is GERDX? How to Prepare for the GERDX Procedure?

You will be provided with instructions from your gastroenterologist at Charme Day Surgery Center about what to do before the procedure. This will include when to stop eating and drinking.

What Happens During the Procedure?

To make your procedure more comfortable, you will receive medications to help you relax. A long thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera on its end is passed through your mouth into your stomach, after which the GERDX device will be introduced under direct visualization. Specific sutures will be placed using the device in the junction between your find pipe (esophagus) and stomach, thereby tightening the junction.
This procedure takes 15-20 minutes procedure.

What Happens After the Procedure?

You will be provided with instructions from your gastroenterologist at Charme Day Surgery Center about what to do after the procedure. It is recommended that you refrain from driving or going to work for the rest of the day. You will be able to go home within a few hours after your sedation wears off and start eating normally. You may feel mild abdominal, chest, or back pain up to 72 hours after the procedure, which should be relieved with simple painkillers.
